This single storey rear kitchen extension forms an exciting contemporary addition to the Victorian semi-detached house.
The extension has a wildflower meadow green roof system, which comprises a membrane system providing the weatherproofing with a growing medium on the surface, which is planted and seeded with wildflower meadow mix resulting in a roof garden effect. This limits the visual impact of the extent of flat roof being created by the single storey addition. The flat roof also provides space for the photovoltaic solar panels.
The construction is a highly insulated timber frame with thermal efficiency well in excess of the current building regulations minimum standards.
The plan layout has a ‘cranked’ approach to maximise the connection between the glazed walls and the garden and to gain the optimum amount of daylight into the deep plan.
